"Ms Nicholas, et al., My apologies for not writing sooner, but only here at the end of my year-long tour do I find myself with the time and means of expressing my gratitude for your kind gift to my unit. My words truly can not do justice to expressing the enormous comfort we have received from the gift of your books. The thought of some kind soul spending their time to gather, and then send, a piece of home to so distant a land, well, it warms our hearts in ways uncountable. To those of us sent forth to battle, each in our own way, those that would seek to bend these people against their will, the knowledge that there are others safe at home sending thoughts and prayers for our success and safe return is strengthening of our own resolve to make it through the adversities and frustrations that challenge us every day. As we are isolated from most of the major bases here, the ability to find a few moments of peace by escaping into a book is one of the few comforts we have here. It is hard to find a soul here who does not spend the waning moments of their day unwinding with one of the books from our rather well-stocked library.
