"W.F. Killip Elementary School, Mrs. Bernhardt's 6th Grade Students, especially Marliana, William and Irene:
I received your donation of gently used paperbacks today. Thank you so much for supporting us downrange here in Afghanistan. These books will be a small respite for many of us who are immersed in daily challenges of trying to bring the Afghans to a level that they can provide for themselves. It will certainly be a boost to our morale. From all of us here at NATO Training Mission Afghanistan, THANK YOU!"

How Operation Paperback WorksOperation Paperback registers and educates its volunteers, and facilitates the fair distribution of books to troops. Members of our volunteer network are asked to collect, pack and ship books directly to troops overseas. Through our online system, volunteers are able to easily download shipping lists that give them the names and reading preferences of troops overseas. Once they pack and send their books, they report their shipments to us. While Operation Paperback relies heavily on its volunteer shipping network to deliver books to troops, we receive hundreds of requests a year for specific titles or what we define as ‘high-demand genres' that must be shipped by staff members. In addition, we have a steady stream of special projects where Operation Paperback purchases and ships books in bulk in support of military missions.
